The French word for the fruit is 'grenade' and the tree/bush is called a 'grenadier'. I have two in my garden, both ornamental varieties, chosen for the beauty of their flowers rather than their fruiting productivity. One does produce some fruit, about 12 this year. The trick is to pick them just as the skin begins to crack, otherwise birds and insects get at them.
