My Littlest Girl by lauriehiggins

My Littlest Girl

That's how I think of Jules...the youngest of my three daughters and at 18, she is barely 5'1" compared to her older sisters who are 5 and 6 inches taller. And a few years ago her younger brother bypassed her and is now nearly a foot taller than she is.

My brakes went out just before Irene hit and my mechanic didn't get power until yesterday, so my car is still sitting in his (toilet filled) parking lot. The storm crashed all my gardens, so my photo options were few, until I looked out the door and caught sight of the light on my daughter's head.

This was taken after work and she is still in her uniform, talking on the phone with a DD coffee in hand, sitting on the big rock in front of our house. This photo is actually a good capture of this summer in our family's life

What a touching photo to go with your sweet story of your kids. I love the way her foot's curved. A simple, lovely moment in time you captured.

@stepheesue You actually noticed one of my private favorite things about this photo. My Jules has always done that with her feet, and the only other time I ever saw the poses she does was in an iconic Newsweek cover after the Oklahoma City Bombing. A fireman was cradling a little girl who died in the blast on his way out and she was the exact age of my daughter at the time. Her feet reminded me so much of Jules that I actually cried standing at the mailbox.

Now I want to know more! Where does Jules work? Who is she having such a D&M conversation with? Does she mind being so much shorter than her siblings? What a busy-body! X

I am about 4 inches shorter than my older sister! I wish I was just an inch or two taller, but since I'm skinnier--it's all good! ;-) Your baby girl is growing up fast and furious! Love the light and the moment captured! I hope you have a great Labor Day Weekend Laurie & you get your car back soon!

Awesome shot! It's funny how the best shots are sometimes on the days when you think you'll have nothing to post. I like the "from behind" shots. They always make me wonder what the person is seeing and thinking so I can definitely relate to Jennifer's questions! lol. I hope your car gets fixed soon, before the toilets! Have a great weekend.

Isn't it funny how, as a Parent we find little things about our kids that make them special to us.

@jenrobcarr @sunnygreenwood Jennifer and Anne, you ladies cracked me up. Jules works as a waitress for the Hearth 'n Kettle restaurant, the same local restaurant group where my husband is the executive chef. I'm pretty sure she is talking to her best friend on the phone, and it must have been a conversation she didn't want overheard since she walked all the way out to the road to have it, and then they went to the beach to talk some more later in the day. She's not a dark and twisty kid like so many teenagers today, so I'm not worried. And yes, she does wish she was taller like her sisters, but her short stature doesn't hold her back. She is bossier than I am with her little brother. Ditto with her boyfriend of four years, who is over six feet tall. She doesn't let me take her picture very often, but here's a photo I posted in July of her meeting her new cousin for the first time: http://365project.org/lauriehiggins/365/2011-07-02.

Toilet filled parking lot...I had a landlord once that saved everything--and had a Volvo dealership in Southboro with old sinks and toilets hidden out back,,,is this a New England thing? LOL
Cute shot of your daughter. I can relate...I am just under 5ft 2. My daughters will all be taller than me...Sophie rapidly catches up.
You daughter has really pretty hair. :-)
