So sad - Kiandra Cemetery

Slowly catching up after being away for 5 days after Christmas.

Taken at the Kiandra cemetery - a grave of a small child that had no headstone. This cemetery would have to be Australia's most desolate & isolated cemetery. There was probably 10 or so graves scattered through the whole cemetery that were marked with a headstone. There was no official 'entry' to the cemetery - no gate, no fence line, nothing....just out in the middle of nowhere on the side of a hill, and very isolated. There was, however, a sign that said the cemetery dated back to the 1860's & that it is unknown how many people were buried here, but with the ravages of time & interference by vandals it has left only remnants of what the cemetery once was.

This is my hubby paying his respects to this poor dear child.
sad indeed

It is sad- but that you treated the area with such respect lifts the sorrow a bit.

Such a sad scene. It reminds us all of how bleak it must have been on occasion for our early settlers.
