St John the Evangelist by leggzy

St John the Evangelist

Presbyterian Church - Wallerawang.

St John the Evangelist Church at Wallerawang, built c1880 is of Victorian Gothic design.

This beautiful old sandstone church was erected by Mrs Georgina Abbott in memorial to her parents, Mr & Mrs James Walker of Wallerawang and first husband, Edwin Barton.

The church was used by both Presbyterian and Anglican denominations for many years. In 2002 the Anglican Church relinquished their share of the church and it is now in combined ownership with the Friends of St Johns and the Presbyterian Church.

In 2007 it was passed by charter that this beautiful old church be non-christian denominational. Weddings, funerals and some services are still conducted at the church.
A beautiful church, and the light is wonderful.
