Bij bijvoorbeeld macro fotografie heb je vaak maar een beperkt gedeelte van de foto echt scherp in beeld, wil je een groter gedeelte scherp dan moet je meerdere foto's maken waarbij je scherpstelt op verschillende punten. In Photoshop voeg je die foto's samen tot één beeld in een focus-stack, het programma herkent welk deel van elke foto scherp is en gebruikt die om het definitieve beeld te maken. . Het is wel belangrijk een statief te gebruiken.

With for instance macro photography you usually work with a very shallow DoF, to get more of your subject in focus you can take several shots and focus on different parts of your subject. In Photoshop you can merge these images together by using focus-stacking, the program will detect which parts of every layer are in focus and use those to create the final image.
