When the first stores opened HEMA was an acronym of Hollandsche Eenheidsprijzen Maatschappij Amsterdam, which roughly translates to Dutch Standard Prices Company Amsterdam, nowadays the stores are just called HEMA and can be found in most Dutch cities, in recent years the chain has expanded to Belgium, France, Germany, Spain and the UK
