So about 3 weeks ago this little guy (painted bunting) showed up at Great Falls and the birding community went wild. He's not local to the area but very common in parts of Florida. A lifer for some birders. He's pretty famous around here and has been featured on the news and in the local papers. It was a gorgeous January day, not too cold, clear skies and very little wind so at 2:30 after seeing a fellow local photographer post a picture he got yesterday of Tie Dye (you know I named him) I thought I'd try my luck. His fan club was there trying their best to spot him. I joined in on the hunt for awhile and then decided to go see the falls in case I had no luck I'd still have a few pictures of something other than his fan club. The number of spectators started dwindling as the sun headed for the horizon. The few of us diehards got lucky when he decided to fly to the other side of the path and settled right below us. Sunset time 5:17pm captured in camera 5:15pm ... crazy noisy but still really happy with picture. On a side note we had painted bunting visit our backyard feeders last year but I had no idea they were such a rare sighting for this area.
