Point No Point lighthouse is another caisson structure lighthouse constructed to "fill in" a 30 mile stretch of the Bay south of Cove Point where no other lights existed. It was lite in 1905 and fully automated 1938 but remained manned by a crew of coastguardsmen till 1962. Only three manned lighthouses remained on the Chesapeake after 1962. This lighthouse was put up for auction in 2007 but removed from auction when it was realized that the lighthouse serves as a boundary marker for the Navy’s Aerial Firing Range and target area.
This lighthouse had Double-crested Cormorant lining the caisson as we approached but most flew off as we circled it. I loved the dark shadows of the two on the white brick wall.
I noticed all the birds right away. They almost look like a railing and is that one on the bathrooom roof? Wonderful light in this shot and so perfectly composed it almost looks like a painting
