Hoswick Housing

I regularly pass through Hoswick on my walks around Sandwick. Nothing much has changed with this view from when I lived here in the 80’s before moving up the road. Hoswick is very sheltered as it sits on the eastern side of a steep hill and as a result has a different climate to the rest of Sandwick. One disadvantage however is that the sun disappears behind the hill much earlier in the day.
That’s a village I noticed when I visited, because there is a village in the Faroe Islands with almost the same name; Hósvík. it derives from the name Tórsvík (Thors bay). Maybe that’s the case in Shetland as well?
There is also a village called Sandvík in the Faroe Islands. It definitely shows that they are closest neighbours.
