Old headstones

Visited an old cemetery today, and wandered through the old headstones and markers. A poignant reminder of the shortness of life and the crumbling nature of stone.

I think about those things when I'm wandering through an old cemetery too. The saddest stones are the ones where you can't read the name anymore. Lovely shot.

Beautiful, and as you say, poignant. I like the weathering on this stone. I tried to make out the age--could it be 41, or 44? If it's either if those, we would consider it much too young to die., but it was much more commonplace in the era of this tone. I'm always touched by the number of children and young women in old cemeteries, the latter, I suppose, often having died in childbirth.
