Katy and I took the big doofus to the pet store to give him a bath. I love my dog, but he’s such a maniac it’s embarrassing at times. We usually don’t see anyone else in the bathing area, but tonight it was a full house. He whined and cried woefully throughout the whole bath while all of the other dogs sat quietly and obediently. (Aren’t labs supposed to love water?) He shook off several times so that everyone around also had a nice shower, he tried to climb over the edge, and when he was finally able to get down he tried running through the store aisle, barking loudly, to get to another dog. I’m so proud when I see other shoppers cowering in the corners, holding on to their own dogs for dear life. I can tell them he’s harmless, but seeing as he’s eighty pounds, yelping wildly while lunging toward them, I doubt they’ll believe me. Oh, one more thing. Whose brilliant idea was it to put the open bins of dog biscuits and other treats in the aisle that leads from the bath to the exit?
What an experience for all involved! He may have been traumatized at the time, but I'll bet that he's feeling wonderfully fresh and clean tonight. :) Love the shot and the narrative.
This is such a great action shot! It matches your narrative perfectly! I went to the pet store tonight too, but only to buy cat food and admire the guinea pigs! :-) It was a very drama-free experience.
You've captured the scene perfectly... I can just imagine that he's shy and modest, that's all... Carlos would never behave in the pet store, in case that makes you feel any better... but he does fit in our kitchen sink for his baths, which I'll admit, has been nice.
I thought Labs loved the water too- well, he's just one of the Labs that stands out and doesn't go along with the crowd. Your story was very enjoyable and made me thankful that I am satisfied not to have my own! Maybe the treats are in that aisle so that haried pet owners can reward the well-behaved as soon as the bath is over??? Or it's a marketing ploy.
LOL! so sorry! Great shot! Cute lab!
My lab needs a bath too. We usually take her to the groomers but lately as soon as we get there she flattens on the ground and won't budge! It is so frustrating! I was thinking of trying a place like this instead.
@sarasdadandmom Yes, Eddie's quite the modest guy! I'd bathe him at home, but he's getting too old to climb into the tub and he's rather difficult to lift!
@kimmiesue@paulaag Thank you! My face was probably quite red at the time. I didn't even mention the part about my flip-flops being wet on the bottom so i was essentially skiing throught the aisle.
@schoolnsuch That makes me feel better. We actually took him to obedience school as a puppy, but sometimes his energy and enthusiasm gets out of control. At home he's a lazy, loping sweetheart.
