Having lived in Indiana my entire life, I can’t imagine what summer would feel like without fields of corn growing up around me. Last night when we were driving to dinner, we drove along several country roads that had corn growing on both sides forming what felt like walls. The stalks stood tall and proud in perfect formation, their tassels waving gently in the hot summer breeze. I just had to go back and get a picture today.
The first time I drove across country I just loved seeing the walls of corn along the highway. We grow corn in NJ and PA too, but the farms are teeny tiny compared to the massive ones in your region. This shot brings back good memories of that trip and how beautiful it was. Great shot!
In 2004 we moved further out into the suburbs, and I was so surprised at how much corn is out here! I am sure it doesn't compare to your neck of the woods, but there is something comforting about a corn field. I love that I need to drive past a few on my way to Target. It makes me feel American. Which is an odd thing to say, but it's the best I can describe it.
@lisjam1 - - I grew up just outside of Chicago, in Oak Park... (home of Frank Lloyd Wright!). There is no corn there. Not anywhere near there, either. I live about 45 minutes to an hour outside of the city now, and there is a more corn here than I would have expected!
Great shot! I saw many walls of corn yesterday as I drove around the counties taking courthouse pictures. While driving through Dearborn county, there was some rows knocked down like they had been windblown. I should have gotten out to take pictures but I was afraid I would become victim to "Children of the Corn"!
I grew up in Michigan (mostly) and that is a corny state, too. That corn had to be taller than knee high on the 4th of July. Nice perspective as it give a feel for just how tall and how far (infinity) it goes on.
I'm a Hoosier, too! I took photos of the very tall corn next to the dog park this past week. The photo that made it to 365 wasn't of the corn, but you can see it behind the fence.
