I am constantly learning new things through this project, and some of them are in my own backyard. I went to a reservoir by my house tonight in search of something different to photograph. I was focusing on a sailboat when I heard a loud drum sounding. I turned to see this boat coming toward me. I did some research when I got home and found out that it is a local breast cancer survivor group that participates in dragon boat racing.
I learned that dragon boat racing started in China over 2000 years ago and is the fastest growing team water sport. A team consists of twenty paddlers that paddle in unison, a steer oarsperson who guides the boat, and a drummer to set the pace. Personally, I would like the role of drummer although I tend to dance like a white person.
@lisjam1 I used to go up there with the Fishers Fire Department divers for the fireworks safety patrol. My friend just took over as Fire Chief . Steve Orusa.
Love the title! That is a great shot. I've tried to photograph some rowing teams around here, but can never seem to get the whole boat in. LOL It's amazing to me how many interesting things can be found close to home even if you've lived in once place for a long time.
That looks cool, and when I was out in Pittsburgh, I watch the same thingon the Ohio River. They were practicing, and it wa sneat to watch how they all work together. A great example of Teamwork
Crew racing is fascinating- but this looks like double crew. Great title- loved that. And yes- you see more things, learn more things, all of that! Good shot-and a really good lesson.
