Hiding Out

I went back the pond behind my office today with my zoom lens to see if I could find the Green Heron. I looked all around for him, but all I could see were dragonflies. I was just about to give up when I spotted him in a concrete drainage pipe at the end of the pond. I’m always amazed at how some animals manage to adapt to the changes we make to their environment.

Nice capture...it can be hard to spot the elusive creatures.

He saw you coming and found a hiding place. They are very shy! But you captured him anyway. I agree- some critters find the craziest ways to work with with us humans- some rather funny too. We had birds build a nest in our Christmas wreath one year. Every time we opened the door they'd get all flustered. I finally took it off and laid it in the back of a large shrub that was by the front door.

Great discovery! I think you might even get some more opportunities to take his picture.

A wonderful spotting and quite a magnificent bird. I agree, they do adapt well, unfortunately, wildlife is losing more and more ground every year. It's sad.
