I am a Type II diabetic and these are the pills I take daily to control my blood glucose. I’m not overweight, and I had it before I got old so I am not your stereotypical Type II. Diabetes first showed up in my first pregnancy and I had to go on insulin during that time. My husband is a Type I so we looked like junkies when we gave ourselves our shots in the car when eating out. Fortunately, now I am able to control my glucose with pills and, truthfully, I’m barely diabetic. I’m not complaining about a few pills because my husband’s diabetes is a whole different ball game, and I see what he has to deal with each and every day to control and monitor his blood sugar.
It's difficult living with health conditions. I often wonder what people did before all of these medications were created. I just added another pill to my pile as well....sigh. But like you said, it could be worse.
Working in the healthcare field, it is part of my job to educate, and to help people understand that life can continue even with such diseases, but it does force one to make some adjustments.
I'm with everyone else here. 1.) COOL shot! 2.) Glad you have your husband for support... and yes, your outlook is spot on... I'm so thankful for medicines that can help us to manage.
Love the SOS pills- nice idea! Diabetes has popped up in my family a couple times. I am thankful that it hasn't hit me so far, but I hope that if it did, I would do what I needed to do to keep it under control. Bravo for you- first to share your story with others, and second to take the steps to stay healthy and not complain!!
@mrssmith@sitiodown@daisy@erikadee@olivetreeann@stepheesue Thanks for your kind words and support. I didn't mean to sound pathetic. My husband and I are quite healthy and my type of diabetes is fairly easily managed. So many people deal with much worse so I'm not complaining!
@bobfoto Thank you! If I had it to do over, I'd flip the pills so the numbers don't show. It was late when I got my photo and when I noticed, I didn't feel like doing it again!
@buccigrossi How long have you been a type 1? My husband was diagnosed at age 7. Times have changed! Back then he had to boil his needles and use them several times. (ouch!) He went on the pump last year which has really given him a lot of flexibility. When I had to take shots through my pregnancies, it really gave me insight into what his daily life is like although he never complains. It's just his normal.
great shot and it is good that you have each other. My sons friend (20) just was diagnosed with it as well...genetic i guess...it is so hard with the diet restrictions..but you gotta do what you gotta do
