I went to our local Renaissance Faire with my sister-in-law today. She used to work at Ren Faires and was a great person to have along to translate and explain the events. There were many beautiful costumes, but this one caught my eye. The Tree Man told me if I was going to take his photo, I would need to come and talk to him. Up close I was amazed at the assortment of things that embedded in his costume. He rewarded us with little wooden acorns from the little basket he carries on his side.
I still feel awkward taking photos of people whether I know them or not. My sister-in-law even pointed out that the people working the faire expect to have their photos taken, but I still felt strange. I need to get over it.
Oh Lisabell I love attending Ren Faires. I'm actually in a guild that attends/camps at faires three times a year. I've seen various "tree men" but this fellow's costume looks very nice. Where those actual pieces of bark on his legs??? Great picture!
A great photo and what a subject! I have never seen such a person, bet it was fun learning about the fair. I too have trouble taking photos of others...
Good capture of the tree man. I am like you. I get shy when taking pictures of others. If you go back to the Ren Fest, look for a gothic fairy. My friend's daughter is dressed up as a fairy. She is short and she dresses gothic all of the time (dark hair and clothes). Her fairy costume has huge wings. She walks with a limp and has a beautiful personality inside her. She loves the Ren Fest.
What fantastic event that must have been and I can see why you chose to photograph the tree man. Every time you photograph a person you get one click closer to being okay with it. Keep it up!!! :D
