Every Christmas Eve since my (now 35 y/o) son was a little one, we have filled bags with sand and candles and placed them in front of each house on our street. Locals come from all around to walk or drive down the Lane to enjoy the sight as part of their Christmas Eve traditions. After the bags are set out, my son and his wife host a buffet style meal and a Yankee swap for family and friends. It's my favorite night of the year.
@fishers thank you Ian-it started out being a way to get everyone out together to place the bags in front of their own homes, and to spend a few minutes with our neighbors on Christmas Eve, but everyone sort of lost interest, so my family kept it going.
@craftymeg thank you Margaret! This year, for the 1st time, one of the newer residents came out and gave my son some home made cookies and thanked him for putting in all the work so everyone could enjoy the lights. I took a shot of that as well, but he doesn't like me to post pictures of him!
