I have 4 different colours of these Cacti.
It is called a ZYGOCACTUS and they bloom around this time every year in Qld Australia - ie Autumn.
They are really beautiful when they are all in bloom in hanging baskets.
I have that.... in bright red and one in white.... though the white one seems to be a weaker plant. Love it just watching for the day when they open properly.
This is about to be even more beautiful! North of the equator, we call them "Christmas Cactus". I suppose (since I know you have a July "celebration of sorts") you could call them "Christmas-in-July Cactus!
And yes, do let me know when you make the cake & how you like it. It was enough of a hit here that Ken asked me to make another for him on his birthday the 1st. As we're having dinner at the neighbors, I know what I'll take!
Louise beat me to it. "Christmas" cactus if you bought it blooming for the holidays. If you try to keep it going indoors the next year you have to be careful with controlling the hours of light and dark or your Christmas cactus will become an Easter cactus!
