We are to lose our 37 year old Gum Tree on Monday :(
On Monday we are having our large Gum Tree removed after 37 years.
This is a photo of the size of it above our roof - very high!
Our son planted it when he was 2 years old
It has become too tall & poses a threat to our house if we have the storms that are predicted this summer.
We are sad to lose it.
I will be taking photos on the day.
Aww, I'm sorry you have to have that tree removed, especially since it carries such memories. Although I suppose it's better to have it removed intentionally than to have nature take care of that for you. Still, a sad day.
That's sad. I hate to see trees go especially when they have special meaning. However, better safe than sorry. My dad had an extremely large maple at the side of our that was rotting from the inside out and I warned him a strong storm could take it down and it would fall towards the house the way it was leaning. Well, it did topple during strong wind but my dad was extremely lucky, it missed the house by a actual inch!
As Joe writes, sometimes you have to let things go but you can't help connecting this tree to your son. In the same vein, my mother planted a row of arbor vita when they were young, along the edge of our patio, not realizing how much they would grow. My mother died, too young, and my father couldn't bring himself to cut down the trees because she had planted them. He left them for the next owner to remove.
