This fireplace mantle and wall at a local restaurant were decorated with antique items, even a kind of sad deer head mount (those ears!). The new bright metal rooster on the far left was so out of place. I mentioned it to our wait staff and she said the decorators place all the items! Really? đ
You are right, the rooster doesn't fit at all. Not a very good decorator. I also thought Cracker barrel before I even read your tags. Are you travelling? That's the only time we stop at a Cracker Barrel. Smile.
Ha ha! So much to see in this picture! Maybe the rooster is put there for the game 'which item doesn't fit in?'. That is one of my favorite games to play with pre-schoolers...
@henrir We are home, we have a Cracker Barrel not too far and just decided to go there for breakfast. That rooster drove me crazy, from where I was seated, I could see him and that poor taxidermied deer.
@suzanne234 Oh, those ears, that neck, that stubby nose, it was actually comical how many things are wrong with that poor deer! Thank you for the fave!
@mave Oh thereâs tons wrong, I do know that Cracker Barrel takes big trucks across the country going to flea markets and thrift stores, buying items. Then they just put the items all over the storeâs walls and mantle, etc. there isnât really much rhyme or reason to their decorating. The rooster is new and everything else is old, so I guess thatâs why I was so resistant to it being there. Ha!
Those ears! As a few have already said they donât look as if they belong to the deer! I quite like the rooster, but as you say it doesnât fit in with the other stuff.
It doesn't fit but the rooster has done its job as everyone is talking about it & people will remember going there. " do you remember the place we went to where there was that rooster?" Sad ears, poor thing!
@happypat So true! People are funny, they remember the odd things and talk about them instead of the lovely things. The coffee pot didnât have a lid but I adored it anyway. @carole_sandford My photo doesnât show the wrinkles in his neck. I think he had to be a taxidermied item that a customer refused to pay for and the taxidermist just gave it to a thrift store! Ha!
@maggiemae Iâm glad you knew about that painting, I too have seen it through the years. The pictures up and down the mantle were American, some western, some military, evidently anything goes, thereâs no real theme in the decorating, for sure.
LOL yes that poor deer is quite pathetic! And posing him next to an oil painting by Gainsborough is a little odd. But I agree with you Mr. Rooster sticks out like a sore thumb. Somebody should scratch him up a bit so he looks a little more rustic like his surroundings. On the other hand, it sure produced a photo worth talking about! Good shot!
@cindymc@radiogirl@olivetreeann@danette@365karly1@joemuli@milaniet@happysnaps thank you all for your great comments, the Cracker Barrel restaurants started on the east coast, we do enjoy stopping in them when we travel. This one is on a main national freeway not far from our home, they have gifts and clothing and housewares for sale, as well as good home style food.
