Thanks everybody!
To answer Paul's question: This is shot from inside our picture window, the bird feeder is maybe 20 ft away. I was poised and ready, with ISO cranked up high enough to support 1/1000th second exposure (on a grey day) and camera set to fast-burst mode. The key thing was my wife knocking on the window to startle the squirrel while I started the burst. This was the "winner" out of the resultant 6 or 7 shots.
What a fantastic capture.
Thanks everybody!
