Thanks all! It is interesting just how many "lost" buoys I see when I'm wandering around the Mississippi river banks. Especially if there's been flooding. I guess they're either properly marking the channel, or obviously out of place. I presume modern barges use gps tracking to stay in the channel, so the buoys are less important than in the past?
