Winter Waterfall

From March 2007, Charleston Falls, OH.

A little bit of Happenstance, here. I was driving across Ohio on a business trip, and ended up stopping just east of Dayton. I checked into a hotel along the interstate, and grabbed a quick dinner at a nearby chain restaurant. Afterwards, there was still some light, so I headed away from the hotel, just to see what I might see. Maybe 3 miles north, I came across a brown sign, announcing "Charleston Falls Preserve", so I turned. And found a rather cool spot.

A short walk from the parking lot and I found this wonderful waterfall. I didn't have a tripod with me, but I wanted to get that smooth water look, so I braced the camera against a fence post and handheld a 1/4 second exposure.

This is one of the few photos that I've printed, framed, and displayed in my home. This version is cropped to fit the aspect ratio of the computer I was using at the time, as it was my desktop image for a long time.
What a great scene you captured so very well. I am not surprised you have it printed and displayed. You have captured the water with what I certainly consider to be just exactly the right amount of smoothness.
