The tasting room by ludwigsdiana

The tasting room

at Blaauwklippen. I was very surprised on arrival, they used the lockdown period to renovate. From a lovely old charm setting they have gone all modern on the outside. The original building was built in 1632 and is still the main tasting room behind this terrace. They took out all the beautiful old trees and are still busy landscaping a new garden.
Did you capture a shot before the reno? It certainly is a beautiful building worthy of the gardens on your way to it.

Picturesque scene.

How surprising to lose that wonderful old feeling that goes with this winery. I would think its age would be one of its attractions.

Looks as though they were kept busy during lockdown.

Well it does look very fancy, though we didn't see the 'before'.

Great shot. Looks like it should be used for a brochure or postcard

You'll have to excuse me - see all your great photos one after the other and I choose the one that appeals to me the most! fav

So inviting

Is there a before and after shot? It looks lovely but updating isn’t always better.

Another beautiful winery building. I was not aware that South Africa has such wine business. This could be because, apart from local wines which are very good but expensive compared to other wines, our main imports came from Europe. Now we get wines from all over the world. South African and Argentinian wines are very good.

It still looks beautiful. Great shot too.

Mmmmmm..... Tasting room 🍷🍷🍷

A pretty view of the building. Nicely composed with the trees too.

Nice contrast

i'm enjoying your wine images. They're sights to see with or without the wine! Well, 'with' is a bit better ... :)

It's beautiful

Lovely view with dappled light, a nice place to sit and relax

Oh Dear! Maybe the old oak trees were past their prime. They were glorious, but could have become ready to be removed.
love your sky and modern garden up front

Looks inviting

Would love to have a glass of South African wine there!

Since I don't know what it looked like before, I can't really tell if the renovations made it look better or not. But there's something really sad about losing "old world charm" and beautiful Oak trees. Still, a very nice shot!

Great shot of this lovely historical house and garden
November 24th, 2020
It looks gorgeous but what a shame about removing old trees

The sun drenched setting looks so inviting.

A lovely inviting building.

Nice capture.

@shutterbug49 @wakelys I have not been there for such a long time, that I only have pics of the area with the old trees. This part of the building was actually only a few small windows. The main entrance used to be in the front ;-)

@milaniet It used to be Milanie, let's see what business they get now. They obviously want to cater for younger families as they have a huge playground now too. Such a pity, as there used to be all kinds of animals around.

@maggiemae Thanks Maggiemae, that's the way to go about it :-)

@olivetreeann Before one used to sit under wonderful old oak trees, it just looks so sterile now. They seem to be catering for young families with children now as they have a new playground where the trees used to be.

The renovation looks very inviting!

What is your favorite South African wine? I am going to look for it. The grocery deliveries are now delivering wine as long as an adult with ID can accept the delivery. I actually got carded and I’m 71.

We visited the Lanzerac Wine Estate, approx 15 mins from Blaauklippen. They all have their unique and quaint feel. Lovely capture of this beautiful setting.

@ludwigsdiana That's just sad!
November 25th, 2020
@loweygrace Lets hope it takes off :-)
@shutterbug49 I have quite a few Debbie. I winter I enjoy red wine, a merlot from Mischa or a Shiraz from De Trafford. Summer is white and I only drink Sauvignon blanc. Favourite is Life of stone from Springfield in Robertson. We have 144 wineries here in Stellenbosch alone, then hundreds from other towns close by. Paarl, Franschhoek and Durbanville are just a few. They all have very good wines and quite a variety :-)

@ludwigsdiana Thanks. I will save this and hope I can look soon. Our wine selections are limited since we were moved back to purple tier....most restrictive. That means we get groceries delivered instead of going out.
