Rustic Accommodations

I made sure there was a little rust in the picture for Gloriously Rusty Tuesday.

The things we do for a 365 photo...

I saw this little bird house out front of a small town antique shop and thought in passing that it appeared to have a piece of rusty metal as a roof. While tempted to go back and check it out, I thought for sure I had a Christmas ornament that had a little rust on it. Turns out that was a Halloween garland of ghosts. So here I am without the rusty subject I thought I had and all these boxes that have been riffled through in a rather frenzied manner when I remember the bird house I saw earlier. Leaving everything a disaster I head back down the road, scoop up the little bird house, relieved to have my Christmasy rust for today's photo. Deciding I want a little bokeh in the background, I move more Christmas boxes so I can get a new set of white lights. These I string on a tree outside where it's below freezing and quite cold in the breeze. I haul out a ladder and a wooden surface to put the birdhouse on and then get my tripod. With freezing fingers, I snap away, hoping that the first shoot produces the picture I want, but the lights aren't quite right so I rearrange them before shooting a few more shots. Bingo. Good enough. Brrrr! (And then I had to put everything away...)

These sort of stories are what I will remember when I look back over the pictures of this project. Almost every photo has some sort of tale to go with it. It's been quite a journey to this point. Here's looking forward to the remainder to come.
Love the bokeh and story to go with it. You always come up with great last minute ideas. Love this shot. Fav

This shot was worth (at least from our warm viewpoint) every bit of that work you put into it - it's fabulous, Denise. Just love the composition - those lights show up the underneath of that rusty roof - which in itself is quite interesting - as well as give the lovely bokeh to your shot. I was busy picturing the whole progression while I read, snickering now and them - other times thinking that's so Denise - just love your creativity and ability to visualize a final product. This is just tremendous. Fav

Will you continue when you finish your year Denise? Love what you did, the bokeh is quite magical.

Perfect bokeh and lovely, lovely composition.

Denise, I love your story as much as your photo! And I agree with you, the stories behind the shots we've take through this year have a tale all their own. Are you able to remember where every shot was taken? I can, yet I have a hard time remember what I had for lunch yesterday. All that aside, this really is a beautiful shot! Worth the chilly fingers for sure.

Fav for the capture and the story of the capture!

FAV! What a cute birdhouse, love the rusty roof! One of my favorite quotes is "To a Friend's House, the Road is Never Long" and the string of lights in your photo remind me of a little trail to a friend's house, rusty roof and all!

That is quite a story, but your picture turned out perfect. It looks like a greeting card when viewed on black. The rusty roofed birdhouse was a great find.

Beautiful comp and love the bokeh. Very nice! Fav.

You've made it work! Magical.

And very well worth the effort you put into it. It shows in all your shots the dedication and creative spirit you have.

I really love the bokeh!!! Fantastic shot, Denise!

This has a happy feel. Love it. Thanks also for your comments and information on your photography. Much appreciated.

Ha ha! Love your story, love your photograph! So pretty!

Lovely image Denise. Subtly festive. :-)
December 3rd, 2014
Oh Denise, how you make me smile. I love the story behind this great shot. I think it's called dedication!

@fayefaye Aww, thanks Faye. I guess my brain is happy when it's busy thinking about creative ideas. 365 definitely keeps it entertained. Thanks for liking the bokeh - that made the chilly work of putting it up all the more worth it.

@milaniet And it's just so you to share such in-depth thoughts about what you're seeing in a photo. Thanks for the vote of confidence in my creative efforts. (My husband often says 'that's so you' about things I do for projects.)

@bella_ss I'm undecided about what I'll do when that 365th picture is posted. I would miss the challenge of a daily picture but I'm so behind in numerous other tasks thanks to the time devoted to this one. It's a quandary.

@aecasey Thank you April. You take a couple of pics, move things around a little, take a few more photos, etc, etc, and eventually tell yourself 'enough!, there's bound to be a good composition in at least one of them'.

@dgrynn LOL! Yes, I can remember all the details about each picture but not a thing about what I ate yesterday (except the See's candy - I definitely remember that one).

@linnypinny Thanks Lin! After rambling on with the story I ended up wondering why I got so wordy, so I'm glad you enjoyed the tale.

@merteskid Now that you've mentioned it, Jo, I see the "trail" too! Thanks for highlighting that. It's a sweet idea.

@lynnz "Nuts", yeah, that about sums it up. Well put, Lynn.

@tahoemb Thank you Mary Beth. You know, I've seen this little bird house out in front of the antiques store for months now, but I never imagined I'd one day own it.

@lyndemc It does take a huge amount of time. I'm also a little undecided what I will do next year. I always come back if I take a break so I might do that or maybe I won't post every day.

@mpratt Aww, thanks Mark. I suppose there's a fine line between crazy and dedicated. I guess as long as the work's still fun, it's good.

@ceilidh Is that what it is??!! Happy my dedication and determination could bring you a smile. That makes it worth it, most definitely.

Such a beautiful little bird house!! FAV for me
December 3rd, 2014
Your hard work paid off, this is a great shot
December 3rd, 2014
Fabulous Denise! I just love the background, it completes the image. Great placement of the birdhouse as well.
December 3rd, 2014
love the rust, the bokeh and the story, especially the story.
December 3rd, 2014
hahah what a great story! Love shots like that with a story, they really show to what lengths we go to "get" the shot! And in the end it all pays of when you get a beautiful shot like this! Love your composition and bkoeh!

Super shot.

Great story! The things we do to get a shot is crazy sometimes. I love your creativity. This is beautiful.

Adorable photo! You sure go the extra mile in getting the perfect shot. It sure pays off with your fantastic photos! Agree with MB about the greeting card idea!

You are insane. I thought you had had a relapse back to Beauty in Browns. Certainly shied away from colour. A fav for all the effort you put into it.
December 4th, 2014
@terryliv Thank you. Thank you very much. Surely there's an upside to insanity.
December 4th, 2014
Love the beautiful result and your story! Fav for all your work!
December 4th, 2014
Oh Lordy Denise, the things you do for a shot. I am full of admiration for your dedication in freezing conditions. But the shot is worth it. And I see its on the PP, so very well worth it.
December 5th, 2014
@dibzgreasley I was browsing through the PP pics and was totally shocked to see this pic among the group. Total surprise there.
