I have six humming birds visiting two feeders. They can't share. They spend so much energy chasing each other. I've learned that humming birds are greedy brats, although I love watching them.
aww, i love the softness of this shot and the pretty colors!! I think hummingbirds are amazing, but we do not have them around our town. I hear all it takes is to set out hummingbird feeders, and they will come. Is that true? love your photo!
Great one Maggie, that's the truth too, they are brats!!! but I do love watching them. This looks like the same ones we have the Ruby Throated.... great job!!!
@kdimagery Kd, I put a feeder out and they came immediately. Then I put two feeders out to stop the fighting. Didn't work. I make my own nectar, two cups of water, 1/2 cup sugar boiled for 2 minutes. Cool and fill feeders. Lasts two day here. You need to change it regularly with the heat.
@maggie2 i should for surely try this sometime! thank you so much for the information!! Before you put your feeders out though, did you see them around where you live? Or did they just kind of appear?? because we dont see them around here where i live....that is why i wonder if they will just show up if i put some out.....bc i was told they will.
@kdimagery Kd, I put up the feeder the first year and it took awhile. Since then, they expect it and come back each year, or their relatives do, or the word is out on the bird hot line that I feed everything that moves. The price they pay....a photo once in awhile.
It's so cheap to try...just a little sugar. Why not. My goal is to hand feed them because they are not shy at all. I can hand feed the chickadees.
@maggie2 that is awesome! i will for surely have to give this a try and see what happens :) Hand feeding them would be amazing! thanks again margaret :):):)!!!
LOL, yep, I've seen some really get into it. You THINK they're sweet little things until you see them pin each other onto the ground like the little sugar addicts they are. This is fabulous--love the background colour and the capture
Great capture of a rare still moment! I actually was underneath one that was sitting on a branch on Friday. I took it's pic and it pooped on me! LOL...I was glad they don't eat solids.
Lovely shot...and I can't wait till I get my little backyard patio fixed up...planning to get a hummingbird feeder so I can enjoy these little guys...any recommendations on what kind of feeder is best?
They are ferocious little devils, aren't they. And hard to photograph, but you've surely done a good job here. Love the soft, muted colors inthe background.
