I bought a new tripod as my old one's legs kept collapsing on me (as one's does) and was able to focus much more steadily on these lovely rhodos complete with bee, of course!
My mothers 1929 journal continues:
Guidborough, Middleborough to Durham and found "digs" in the annex of the Waterloo Hotel, which still exists. She loved the river Wear with its reflections of trees, and arched bridge and the mighty Cathedral and Castle! I googled the cathedral and was once more amazed at the history! The shrine of St Cuthbert, the 9 altar chapel, the rose window and vaulted roof and massive columns! The castle, "It looks like a castle, smells like one and feels like one – my word!" Then, its on to Newcastle where I am typing at present. 20849 words!
I think you will definitely have to think about following in Mums foot steps Magiemae!!! These rhododendrons look like taffeta ballerinas ( except for the be of course)
Lovely shades of purple. Pat has the right idea. Follow her footsteps and take pictures, also buy historic postcards showing things as your mom would have seen them. Then think about publishing it.
Oh your rhododendrons are JUST GORGEOUS. Such beautiful colors. I'm sure that new tripod will be much easier to deal with than one with collapsing legs ; )
Your mum must have been a wonderful writer--and she obviously was very adventurous!!!
@lyno She met some girls from Durham when she was in Whitby ,"who think we are very brave coming all by our two selves,- maybe – yet it doesn’t seem to take very much courage." She was 24 years old then.
@yonnie her writing is amazingly well put together, Yvonne, I don't have to edit much at all- though I did just type that they were "thrilled to the cuticle" at being in Bonny Scotland! The word is kind of funny.
Very beautiful. I guess you will be using your new tripod a lot now. Lovely stories, too. I've been away from 365 for a few months, and think I'll post again now as often as possible.
What a beautiful photo, Maggiemae. I love the colors, detail and the bee. Now I can see how handy a tripod can be in making a photo more clear. There is not always a tree to lean against or someway to steady myself for certain shots, especially in low light. More fascinating travels of your Mom and how nice today to be able to google what she speaks of and find info at your fingertips. I bet she would have enjoyed computers though it may be that she is having too much fun traveling as she has been and not sitting down at one.
@darsphotos one of the saddest things, Darlene, is that I didn't read this while she was still alive and so able to enjoy her memories with the aid of google!
Your mum must have been a wonderful writer--and she obviously was very adventurous!!!
And a FAV
