managed to get a moonshot using my new tripod! The night before being a full moon, I was checking constantly but the cloud didn't allow the moon to even peek! Tonight, there was a short break in the clouds and when I went out to check, the moon sailed through it!
I'm not really happy with it as it is too bright - been advised shutter speed is important so I'll try again!
@maggiemae Moon shots are tricky! I looked back at my moon shots and it seems I did have faster shutter speed therefore less exposure. When I want to shoot the moon I look at all the exif data on 365 photos that are tagged "moon", and then I get an idea of what the settings shoud be...it's a starting point and then I make adjustments as needed.
I like it with the sky so dark I think it would be hard for it not to be bright. . Been trying to get a decent shot the last close days but no luck. I think you'll really enjoy the tripod...
I thought it was a sunset also. Very pretty any how. remember the moon is really bright so the exposure doesnt need to be long, otherwise you lose all the detail...after all we want to see that 'man on the moon' clear as possible. You are going to love your tripod, they are priceless
What a beautiful shot, Maggiemae and I realize the importance of using a tripod as my low light shots are so blurry so much of the time. I have to invest in a small one. Enjoy yours.
@kamb I think that might be the secret and I did read that somewhere- I had it on a long exposure so the light went right into the camera! I get so excited when a good photo opportunity comes up that I quiver in anticipation and forget all I have learnt!
@maggiemae I used a full tripod for years with a small camera and now have a larger camera but my small one took awesome photos. I miss it after it stopped working. You take great photos. It is camera plus the photographer that make a great photo.
