I decided simple was what I wanted with this dandelion that has been sitting in a pot for about 5 days! I can now throw it out before it propels its seeds everywhere!
On another tack, has anyone had any problems with using a tripod in a friend or aquaintance's place? I have been firmly told by a good friend, not to bring my tripod because it looks professional and they didn't want any one there thinking they were taking professional photos! I was stumped for an answer - they know I'm not a professional! I guess it is too intrusive!
Lovely wishy shot... I'm confused about the tripod thing... You say your friends don't want you bringing it when you visit because it makes it look like they have a professional photog visiting? I am very confused... That said, unless I was after something very specific I doubt I would be bothered to bring a tripod over to a friends house...
@northy I brought it to capture a Haggis ceremony at a party they were having outside and used the video on the camera. That was last time. This time they made sure I wouldn't use it even though I didn't have it with me!
Great shot! I did the same thing with a dandelion blossom the other- took a shot and then pinched the heads off so that it couldn't go to seed! Sorry about the strange reactions to the tripod! Can't really explain that because they know you're not pros!
Lovely soft high key Maggie.
I usually have my tripod in the car, (except last night, when I actually needed it) but have never been asked not to bring it somewhere. I don't take it if there are a lot of people around, but only because I don't want anyone to trip over it and break my camera!!
Love the simplicity in this pic. I can imagine your friend feels uncomfortable with being filmed while eating - Haggis is something special to eat, isn't it?
Maggie, this is beautiful, so delicate and with such soft lighting.
Sorry to hear about your tripod issues. Some places I visit don't allow tripods but that is mainly for H&S issues, trip hazards etc. If the only reason is looking like a professional, that is a bit of an odd one as many photographers - enthusiasts and amateurs have tripods, they are certainly not the preserve of professionals only! I hope you sort it all out.
@emmadurnford thanks Emma for your comment. These friends are a bit obsessive about some things and it is quite a shock to find that out! I will just get round it!
@yonnie you are right, Yvonne their house and they wouldn't listen to my explanation that I can't take a good photo without the tripod - my camera is not an expensive one! I now get so nervous about taking any photos at their place while others are snapping away with their expensive point and shoots
Great shot, Maggie. Strange reaction to the tripod. I haven't experienced that, but then I usually leave my tripod in the car! I've only ever used it "out" once!
@maggiemae my friends do laugh at me when I bring the tripod, but they feel special their event is worth the extra camera equipment. i would ask the next time maybe they don't understand that sometimes a tripod results in better pictures.
oh and this shot is gorgeous, i am hoping to get a shot of a Dandelion soon, they are not see easy to find where i live because they are beaten back with a vengeance by all the landscapers.
@kwiksilver Thanks Gillian - my camera is just an inexpensive bridge camera and does need a tripod but I like it. Its not like your DSL Canon which must be so good!
Great take. Congrats on the PP too. I'm too lazy to carry a tripod but it does sound a bit strange. Maybe your friends are just jealous that you are a better photographer than they are.
This is beautiful and great in b&w. I take my tripod everywhere with me just in case and must say nobody has had a problem if I use it. When I am out and about in the city I will often get stopped and asked which publication I work for so clearly non photographers do associate a tripod with professional here at least.
nice B&W dandelions are great for shots like this but a pain when the seeds start to fly everywhere!! I'm a bit bemused by the tripod thing...I don't normally take a tripod anywhere with me...my friends just roll their eyes if I do. Only explanation would be surrounding a trip hazard where lots of people are in a confined space, other than that, very odd!

Great shot - I do like these flowers, even if they are weeds.
Lovely b&w of this dandelion.
And, I don't understand the tripod thing--why anyone would care is beyond me! But I guess, if it's their house, what can you do???
