I thought this particular shot exuded the American scene with the flag and the cocacola brand on the truck behind. They don't have to wear helmets in this state and often wear a scarf.
Three good things:
1. Definitely on the road to recovery.
2. The rain poured down, the wind roared, lightening flashed, sirens went off, downstairs in this old hotel, there was flooding and I got some good pictures of buckets and staff mopping up!
3. A Skype call to a sister in NZ regarding my elderly sister who is declining in hospital there. Better than email.
Many states don't have helmet laws any more. I once asked a biker why they chose not to wear one and they replied, "If I am in an accident I don't want to end up a vegetable." His thinking is that he would rather die instead of ending up an invalid.
@skipt07 That's a valid comment, Skip. Our son in law had a motorbike accident and is in a semi vegetable state - for 7 years now! His helmet was not damaged!
How typically American maggiemae....I love it...big fave!
Everything seems big, bold & colourful.......your photos even look bigger & brighter....not better just different. No helmets is not good but do like the headscarf! Looks in keeping & you are definitely drawn to any motor bike.......John must be having a ball!
@happypat Thanks Pat for that fav! I like how the photos come out of the camera just the best and there is little I have to do to improve them. John is glad of a rest now and then, I must admit!
You don't have to wear helmets in Florida either, but recommended. What a great bright All American scene you caught here. Hope you're enjoying your visit!
Wow. How time flies. Didn't realize you'd skipped NZ and were battling flu, GPS and near misses with fellow 365ers. Just had a lovely 10 day trip across America with you. Beautiful images. Hope that colds gone for good and you now can really get your teeth into this touring. Would have been great to catch up with Leana - an amazing traveller.
@julzmaioro In some ways I agree with no helmets - your brain can get really sloshed in an accident with a helmet and you continue to live - as a vegetable!
Love this shot, Maggiemae. Sure does capture the USA well. I did not know it was different from state to state wearing helmets. Wish you could have met up with Leana. So glad you are feeling better. Sorry about your sister but so glad you were able to Skype with your other sister. Definitely better than email. Take care.
Love this shot! His reflection in the mirror is great and looks like the bike is pretty cool too! Yes- a couple of iconic American symbols here. And is that a Harley Davidson key chain or is it on the truck in the background?
Excellent candid. We have a helmet law here. I wouldn't ride without one, even if the state didn't have a law. Interesting color for the motorcycle. You might find a lot of motorcycles that have the US flag attached to them. The ones I've seen around here are veterans of the military. Scary about the storm and floods. So sorry to hear about your ailing sister. That must be hard for you.
