Weird and wonderful

This is the beginning of a huge (giant is more applicable) flower that comes out from the flax like plant on a thick stalk! I can never remember the name. There are about 5 of these on one plant and they end up overhanging the lawn edge and you bang your head as you mow the lawn!

I have now posted a photo of another flower that is a bit further advanced in the flower growing project!

Three good things;
1. Dandelion donging again.
2. Planted green beans which climb.
3. Visit from my niece who is only 1 year younger than me.
not sure but could it be an amaryllis?? it is a lovely color.

It's fascinating. Hope we see it unfurled

@cheribug Much bigger than an amaryllis, Cheryl. This particular one is about the same size as a spade for want of anything to compare it with!

I can't even imagine a flower that big! Wow! I don't really know garden plants. I'm more of a wildflower girl. You'll have to post a picture when it opens up.

Rather a weird & wonderful flower & the picture of you walking underneath as I'd dongs you on the head is riveting....the plant must be very tall! Must look at the bigger one!
October 14th, 2014
brilliant Maggiemae fav
October 14th, 2014
That is a wild looking flower.....it would be nice to see it in context....preferably hanging over someone's head as they are mowing!!
October 14th, 2014
This is a great shot of a massive bud - it seems to be reaching towards you with pursed lips wanting to be kissed. I think it is commonly known as a Mexican Lily or if you want to be technical Beschorneria yuccoides, so not really a lily. There are a lot of them growing on the coastal roadside just as you come into Motueka.

@snaphappi Thats exactly what it is Maggie - thanks a lot for this!
