At the Auckland Museum there was a large group of Nuie Islanders displaying weaving, sculpture, carving, song and dance. The singing was wonderful - melodious and with harmony. The weaving was meticulous - hats, baskets, flowers etc.
Three good things:
1. I was able to take 2 videos of their songs
2. Visiting the WW1 area of the museum where my father was in their records.
3. Finding out where my father's first wife was buried.
So colorful! And the music sounds like it would be so cool to listen to. Although I'm looking at the age of these women and wondering if the younger generations are stepping away from their heritage or if they're enamored with pop culture like many over here who are third or fourth generation ethnic groups. I know it's good to be a blend of both, but so many things are becoming a lost art because the cultural traditions are either not taught or not cared about. I guess that's what happens over time, but it's sad.
Nice shot, Maggie. They all look intent on their tasks and look like they are enjoying what they are doing. It looks wicked complicated! Very cool you got to see the records that had your dad in them.
Glad to hear your Good things 2 and 3. Family history is important.
