Allies

USAF C-17 Globemaster III and the RNZAF C-130 Hercules are seen together here at Christchurch Airport. The Hercules was rumbling past me as we went to pick our car up. These two aircraft fly to Antarctica regularly.

Three good things:
1. A vegan breakfast wasn't too bad.
2. Home was cold but soon warmed up with a fire.
3. My new electric bike!
Awesome shot

This draws me in. I really like the sky and the planes against the fence. Its moody and just cool all the way around. Great shot Maggie!

Interesting. (when will it start warming up in NZ??)
October 20th, 2014
@leananiemand It is warming up now here in NZ, Leana but every now and then we get a cold snap coming through. North is naturally warmer than the south but gets more rain and wind.

Fantastic shot Maggie, well captured

Great capture!! Not sure you would be able to get a shot like this in the UK - you can't get this close to an airbase and there are always notices all round saying No Photos.

Great capture, Maggie. I like how it shows unity in the two countries' armed forces. It's very nice. And I love planes, too! Fav

Very cool photo! The lighting is great. It's amazing that these plants fly to Antarctica.

@pamknowler I wondered that too but the airfield was right net to the carpark. I did expect someone to race over to me and confiscate my camera but its not really political here - just a means of getting to Scott Base!

@prttblues Not really armed forces, Bev but amiable companions in the long trek to the Antarctic!
October 21st, 2014
@brillomick They are so huge! And the noise of this plane was like growling thunder!
October 21st, 2014
Nicely spotted, their service to Antarctica is not adequately recognized.

@maggiemae My bad... I missed the word Antarctic! My eyes are going bad! Still very cool. Those are massive planes. Did you know that a regular person can buy a ticket to actually step foot on Antarctica for the price of $10,000?
October 21st, 2014
@prttblues Crikey! You can also get on a cruise ship and pay to get stuck in the ice and have to be rescued!

Fav great shot of two monster Air Transporters.
my friend was in Christchurch a few years ago when the earthquake hit,
she was in a store broke her hip and spent a while in hospital before she could fly home.

strictly forbidden to get closer. Vegan food can be a surprise to me because my low expectation. We had a shop here selling Vegan cake it is so yummy.
October 21st, 2014
Such low bellied aircraft.......they look very solid & reliable. Loving the peak through that barrier.
October 21st, 2014
@sangwann I didn't have the time to get the camera between the netting - the plane was trundling along very quickly!
October 21st, 2014
Great capture of these big silver birds in their cage.

Amazing how the fence adds a sense of drama to the photo. Great shot.
October 22nd, 2014
@pauliek I had to take it so quickly, Paulette I didn't have time to poke the camera through the fence! But I do agree with you!
October 22nd, 2014
Wonderful perspective and composition. I like the way you took the shot through the fence. It draws me right in.
October 22nd, 2014
Cool aircraft and so massive! Hadn't thought about you being that close to Antarctica. I really need to get a globe or map. I love looking at all the map see to where every one lives.
