USAF C-17 Globemaster III and the RNZAF C-130 Hercules are seen together here at Christchurch Airport. The Hercules was rumbling past me as we went to pick our car up. These two aircraft fly to Antarctica regularly.
Three good things:
1. A vegan breakfast wasn't too bad.
2. Home was cold but soon warmed up with a fire.
3. My new electric bike!
@leananiemand It is warming up now here in NZ, Leana but every now and then we get a cold snap coming through. North is naturally warmer than the south but gets more rain and wind.
Great capture!! Not sure you would be able to get a shot like this in the UK - you can't get this close to an airbase and there are always notices all round saying No Photos.
@pamknowler I wondered that too but the airfield was right net to the carpark. I did expect someone to race over to me and confiscate my camera but its not really political here - just a means of getting to Scott Base!
@maggiemae My bad... I missed the word Antarctic! My eyes are going bad! Still very cool. Those are massive planes. Did you know that a regular person can buy a ticket to actually step foot on Antarctica for the price of $10,000?
Fav great shot of two monster Air Transporters.
my friend was in Christchurch a few years ago when the earthquake hit,
she was in a store broke her hip and spent a while in hospital before she could fly home.
Cool aircraft and so massive! Hadn't thought about you being that close to Antarctica. I really need to get a globe or map. I love looking at all the map see to where every one lives.
