Sailing nowhere by maggiemae

Sailing nowhere

This boat has been here for absolutely years! Underexposing it hides the deterioration but I'm surprised it hasn't collapsed!

Three good things;
1. My bike ride took me past this field and round the glorious countryside of North Otago for 12 km.
2. Counting the calories of a chocolate bar that was wasting away in the fridge did nothing for my conscience but a lot for my smile!
3. A great friend phoned me late at night to tell me her husband, also a great friend, had had a heart attack but was having a triple by-pass within hours and would then be much better! He was slim, walked and swam regularly, ate all the right food yet got struck down!
Amazing about the friends husband. Prayers for him to do well with his surgery. This is a cool shot and sight. Love your processing.

Wonderful processing. Looks like a drawing.

this looks like a charcoal drawing. you've really honed your post processing skills very well. i love all the details. and chocolate is good anytime it gives you a smile. sorry to hear about your friend's husband.

Has a real castaway look

So it would be false to think that we could be sailing away in this ! I like Sheila @sheilag 's comment --You have done a great job at editing .You must be having the time of your life seeing the countryside on your bike -- have you given it a name yet?-- perhaps Little red riding hood !!

cool shot.... love your comment about the chocolate bar!

The boat has no fought seen better days! Nice POV!

@beryl I haven't decided on its sex yet Beryl! It will come to me!
November 7th, 2014
This is wonderful, particularly on black (very 3d).
November 7th, 2014
p.s. fantastic processing!

@tremerryn ooh, you are right, Ms T!

Great effect

Had a nice stroll through your album. What beautiful processing. I'm with you on the simple joy of being home alone on occasion. Enjoy.
November 7th, 2014
High & Dry - your processing has lent a desiccated feel to this old gal. Nicely done.
November 7th, 2014
This does have a cast adrift look. The b/w really brings out textures well.
November 7th, 2014
This has the look of a pencil drawing sketch in an old book. That boat must have had good times in the past poor thing....looks alone & unloved now!
12km you are getting about maggiemae...it sounds wonderful & I'm sure you will have to pedal it a little or aren't there any pedals? The poor man did everything right & still gets struck down, there is no justice! When I think of my friend Ann & how she went to Slimmers world for the six months prior to her death....she might as well have gorged on chocolates & cream cakes for all she new!
November 7th, 2014
@happypat I have to pedal to make the motor work but its easy pedalling, Pat. A good exercise but not in any way strenuous! About Ian, he went swimming for an hour just about every day at 7am and they had to drive for half an hour to get to the pool! His arteries were so clogged, they couldn't put a stent in! I continue to think that it is in the genes. John's always said exercise is bad for you - you can die!

Great b&w
November 7th, 2014
Neat processing! Wishing your friend a speedy recovery.
November 8th, 2014
@mccarth1 Thank you for your wishes, Kerry - I'm wishing very hard too!
November 8th, 2014
I do hope your friend's husband comes through the surgery and recovers well. Love the framing and pov in this capture. The vessel suggests to me Noah's Ark after it finally reached dry land, although this obviously isn't Mount Ararat. Re: the chocolate bar: you couldn't leave the poor thing languishing in the fridge, now, could you? :) You just reminded me that I have a vegan chocolate cupcake in my fridge waiting to become my dessert tonight.

what a great find and love it in B&W
hope everything goes well with your friends husband .... makes you wonder why since it sounds like he took pretty good care of himself?
November 8th, 2014
Great processing, Prayers for the friend.
November 8th, 2014
@sarasdadandmom Thanks so much Terry - I feel the same way!
November 8th, 2014
@lesip I've always thought 'what will be will be' and this was in his genes. And - why torture yourself on a low fat, low calorie, low anything diet and exercise to the extreme! I'm for chocolate, lounging, and gentle exercise!
November 8th, 2014
Fantastic shot and enhanced no doubt by your artistic processing. Fav
November 8th, 2014
Great processing, I need to learn these things on how to do this.
November 8th, 2014
Beautifully processed Maggiemae.
November 8th, 2014
Neat processing. Shame it hasn't made it to the water.
November 8th, 2014
They used to build them better back in the day. Super shot and precessing!
Hope your friend's husband recovers quickly!!
November 8th, 2014
Great shot. Will say a prayer for your friend's husband
November 8th, 2014
Love the ahot, as others have said its like a pencil sketch. I have just eaten a piece of chocolate while looking at photos so your comment makes me feel guilty! Hope your friend's husband gets better quickly
November 8th, 2014
Number 3 sounds unfair! Go and poke that boat and see if it falls over...
November 8th, 2014
Great shot.
November 8th, 2014
I love the way you've processed this! Great lines and textures -- and so unexpected a place to see a boat!
November 8th, 2014
@bkbinthecity @kelly2 Thank you for your thoughts! I haven't heard anything more than the 3 grafts were successful but the next 48 hours are critical!
November 8th, 2014
sounds like a very long ride but a bonus to find excellent subjects like this!

So sorry for your friend. use that as justification for that chocolate bar!
November 8th, 2014
@grammyn Its not as long as 140k rides I used to do 15 years ago, Katy but I've got different legs and lungs now! Need that chocolate to put a smile on my face as well as rebellious action!
November 9th, 2014
@maggiemae you are a wild woman! ;~}
November 9th, 2014
This is a great shot and love your processing, Maggiemae. So glad your friends husband will be ok. You are a smart woman. We all need to take care but not to the extreme.
November 9th, 2014
I immediately thought of Gilligan's Island
November 9th, 2014
@digitalrn Me too!!!!

Yes, this is a scene right out of the TV show! And the b/w fits right in with it. My thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery on your friend. When my father had his heart surgery we were amazed at how quickly he felt and looked better- almost immediately after the surgery. And he loved showing folks the scar on his leg from where they took one vein out to replace one of the ones around his heart.
November 9th, 2014
@olivetreeann Thanks Ann - good to hear about successful bypasses!
November 9th, 2014
Wonderful processing and shot Maggie...Fav

Great shot, Maggie. Nice processing. You can't tell it's old. As for heart attacks, they don't discriminate. I am glad that she told you he was going to be okay.
November 10th, 2014
I thought someone converted it into a house. That should be fun
November 10th, 2014
@yaorenliu At least a children's play house, Yao!
