Beach of the Boulders by maggiemae

Beach of the Boulders

This is Moeraki Beach where the boulders are a major drawcard to the area. These boulders are grey-colored septarian concretions, which have been exhumed from the mudstone enclosing them and concentrated on the beach by coastal erosion. Its a lovely beach for walking along and stretches for miles!

Three good things:
1. A great meal at the Boulders Restaurant above this beach with the most succulent ham.
2. Got required signatures for a letter to approve the internment of the ashes of my half sister and her husband. There is a lot of application stuff
3. John's reading of a wicked poem he found at both the funeral and the Lion's meeting today.
Nicely captured view of this famous beach.

Awesome shot

Those boulders must be very large, compared to the guys standing on the beach.

@anazad511 Yes they are all about the same size - They originally formed in ancient sea floor sediments around 60 million years ago. Fascinating!

I love a good poem. Love how you've got the people for scale.

@judithg This one was a bit risqué and best recited with a Cornish accent!

Great composition, the people are a good yardstick. Looks a nice place to walk, quite a feeling of vastness

Wow! So similar to the shot I posted today! They could even be the same boulders - from a different pov of course!

Those looks so different at low tide! Now I'm glad that we saw them at high tide in a way, although both have their appeals I guess :)

Gorgeous composition. I like the tiny people, including at least one photographer with tripod. Fav for me,

wow what a great scene you have captured. I guess the guy with the tripod is going to put those rocks in the foreground of his picture.

Another 365er shared these boulders not too long ago.... very fascinating! Great shot of the scene! I like your far away perspective.

I find this very fascinating! You image is from a great vantage point too!

Without the people it would be difficult to realize just how large the boulders are. Great shot.

Love that you got the people for scale!! Must be impressive to see live!!

Very lovely beach, Maggie. My mum's ashes are in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Maine. If I want to visit her, I need to take a boat to her coordinates. So sometimes I just drive to the coast in New Hampshire and walk along the shore of the Atlantic there and it helps me feel a bit closer to her. That's good you got the signatures.

@prttblues I do think the place where the ashes are should trigger all the memories. If they are in the ocean, its not quite the same but you can stand on the coastline and still summon the memories!

Lovely expanse of beach, that's what I would like, a sea scattering.
December 4th, 2014
@neatz I think the person themselves would like to think they were part of a huge and world wide flow of the oceans! But the ones left behind need a place of remembrance!

It does look like a grand beach for walking!
December 4th, 2014
Great composition, people gives the scales of that enormous rocks !

Interesting information on the boulders. I can see how they would make good foreground interest for a photo there.

Wow, gorgeous scene, and as always, I enjoy your TGT

I heard so much about this place and the chef Fleur, Is she still alive? Must go one day to take photos of this place.

@yaorenliu She is amazingly after having cancer and the treatment! She's a real character with her wild white hair and her great devotion to natural herbs and fresh food!

What a gorgeous shot, Maggiemae. Nice to see the people to be able to see the scale to the boulders. They are huge. Sounds like a great place to eat. FAV
