Found a nice possy...by a river and opened our presents. I was given a silky pair of trousers and a top by my Japanese family and knowing how small the majority of Japanese are, was a bit worried that they would not fit! However I just managed to pull the trousers on and if I didn't breathe could get the top on. Took a photo - still not breathing - then took them off! Here, I've got an apron on that was a present for me from my sister-in-law sitting there (she's 87)
Three good things;
1. Had the whole place to ourselves except for a large heron.
2. Cold chicken, ham and champagne not all taken together but all nice.
3. Played Pooh sticks in the water and John won!
I examined your picnic very carefully.....a bit like looking at other peoples shopping baskets! I never know what to do for a proper posh picnic!
Beautiful spot ....what a way to spend Christmas Day.......a little different from ours! Funny about the Japanese clothes...you did well to get them on at all! Lovely to see your Christmas Day lunch! Happy Christmas Maggiemae?....John too!
Thanks for sharing your Christmas Maggiemae. What a wonderful and fun way to spend the day. It was very cold here but the sun came through for a while. Like Pat I find your picnic interesting and love the details in your picture. My lovely son paid for us to have a wonderful family Christmas lunch at a very nice hotel. Seemed so strange with no feast to prepare at home!
Strange to see you celebrating outside on a lovely warm day when ours are always inside because of the cold! I got an apron too made by one of my daughters! Great image! hope you had a blessed Christmas
This looks idyllic. We had a beautiful day here and had presents followed by Christmas dinner outdoors too. Scallops, turkey and trifle - all delicious.
They were delicious Nelson scallops thank you Marg, and I served them pan-seared on a bed of peperanato to give a little continental flair. My sister cooked the turkey and stuffed it with some wonderful concoction of Maggie Beers and then it was basted with maple syrup. Now I feel really hungry - haven't had dinner yet.
@snaphappi Wow - I think the ones I had the day before must have been Nelson scallops - they were huge! Basting with a sticky sweet mixture sounds the best!
What a great place to sit and celebrate Christmas. Such a great idea to have a picnic. I love your photo, Maggiemae. I wish we had nice weather for Christmas like this and that they close all stores like they used to so we can spend time with family like we want to.
@darsphotos Most of our stores are closed on Christmas day - shops have to have special permission. Family picnics are always so good - good with friends too, like Lesley!
@maggiemae I must correct myself as most is closed on Christmas Day but open on Christmas Eve and very early the day after Christmas Day. Thanksgiving has become a problem as most stores open by 5pm now and so many have to be in early to set up for sales. We figure that eventually stores will be open Christmas Day. It was fun to have our little picnic with Leslie.
