This time we set out for a tunnel that is in the A2O (Alps to Ocean) bike trail from Mt Cook to Oamaru. But the picnic place was in the shade so we went on, past the Elephant Rocks and down to a sunny riverside bank. Finished the meat pie I had made, and sipped an Italian wine. We needed to be in the sun as there was a cool wind that blew up the river valley rustling the huge willows and creating a noise which didn't overpower the singing of the birds. John asked why do people take music to picnics and play it when you can sit in peace.
Three good things;
1. The fruit mince pie that Ernest Adams had provided.
2. Having someone to go to a picnic with! Not the same, alone unless you have a dog.
3. All the lovely New Year wishes from my wonderful 365 friends!
Love your picnics maggiemae, you make them look so tempting! Rather old fashioned with your proper picnic basket....I do t think I have ever been on a picnic whetecyou have wine...how civilised! Lovely edit to this photo!
@happypat Wine enhances your view of everything, Pat and when you are having a picnic among wild flowers, chuckling water, singing blackbirds, you are in heaven!
A very astute and good question posed by John! I don't like radios at the shore either for the same reason. Love the pov and delightful sunniness of this shot. I feel as if I am on the picnic with you! fav
@olivetreeann I think I'd rather be in the sun for a picnic than in the shade because its too hot! Wish you were the couple that we saw on the other side of the river!
Maggie! The color and how it looks 3D...like I could stick my arm out and throw a fishing line out there! Sounds like it was a lovely moment for y'all! HAPPY HAPPY NEW YEAR, MY FRIEND TO YOU AND YOURS!
What a lovely view and composition . I shared a picnic with Darlene on our Photowalk it was lovely. We didn't have a basket though or probably the yummy things inside it.
@lesip This particular basket was inherited from my older sister who lived in London and bought it from Harrods I think! It squeaks a lot as you open it!
A picnic! How fun and what a bright cheery scene. My late mum and I were the only ones in the family who love mince pie. It was her favorite and she used to make the best! I haven't had it in years b/c I would have to eat the whole pie!!
I do love the pov and comp here, lovely processing too. The picture plus your word-picture make me almost feel as if I were there. Definitely a fav for me.
Oh I love this!! Not sure how I missed it though? Such a perfect place for a picnic - I wish I could join you!! Lovely processing too!! Happy new Year Maggiemae!! Fav!
a long time ago, i went to picnic with myself, nice mini sandwiches, spring water and a book to read. i also had with me my portable typewriter so i could write. a little snake sent me packing. :-) this is a nice place you chose. these days, however, places like this would send me sneezing.
