Final day and breakfast was served in a big restaurant overlooking a soggy but beautiful garden where a wedding was planned today! No high heels but the groom was in a wheelchair so they had some problems to solve.
After a group journey like this, most people knew each other’s names (or had forgotten them according to their ages) and there was laughter and many goodbyes.
On this 6 day trip, the staff continually served pinkie bars - marshmallow and caramel covered in chocolate! They were given for this trip by Cadbury! The staff were young, full of great comments and toleration of renegade passengers' silly comments.
Here we were traversing around Otago hillsides overlooking tiny and remote bays with hidden beauty! Taken with my magic zoom!
Three good things:
1. Home earlier than usual - the usual had become up to 3 hours late!
2. Once we had got the fire going, it got so hot, that John in his usual way said, “petting like a swig” The transpose master!
3. So many memories to review - probably in the middle of the night!
Nice to be home but what great adventures you have! Half the fun on these types of trips is the fun with other travellers....can be a bit quiet with our other halves whom we see every flipping day!! Sweet little boat houses......the boat is king in NZ seems!
@thistle I don't think they would have made a big profit Joyce with having to hire several engines that weren't in the plan but everybody enjoyed it so much!
What a lovely trip this must have been....there is so much civility and camaraderie to rail travel.... I guess time slows down and you adapt to living in cramped quarters and such close proximity to others! If you are partial to traveling by train you should check out the books by Paul Theroux....wonderful travelogues full of dark humor and observations!
It looked and sounded like you had wonderful adventures on your trip. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to comment at the time but I loved seeing your photos and hearing your tales.
@maggiemae hahaha. I posted a picture where I myself took pictures of actual buildings and then blended them together. I posted it for tomorrow September 28th to show you the contract to the one that you didn't think I could do that you didn't think I did with app called rainbow sky with buildings.
