Other than a telephone line casually draped over our fence, and a couple of tree branches trying to make friends with the rose garden, we had no serious damage from the 100km winds which continued overnight!
Today the courier delivered this from the Publisher. It is the Authors copy and comes ahead of all the other copies. I was so excited I couldn’t get the parcel open fast enough! There it was…. a real book!
Three good things;
1. I’m really chuffed with all the ‘well done’s”that came my way. It does make me feel as if I have accomplished something.
2. The blossom tree looks a lot smaller - not good but there is still some left.
3. No tiles came off the roof but inner doors jiggled in the middle of the night which made me get up and investigate! No problems! Something to do with vacuum inside while wind screamed past outside!
This is great - a real book! That must be an amazing feeling. Congratulations!!! The current storm my symbolise a bit, what you encountered making this book,... a lot of jolting, but no serious damage.
The fav is for the whole way of making this book.
Trying to decide whether to get your book on Kindle or plump for the proper book & get the author to sign it when we meet up......it looks wonderful maggiemae! Hope you sell lots! A real achievement! How did the sisters take the new title?
@happypat I can save one of the ones I get, Pat for you when we meet up! Saves freight etc. ps... Haven't heard a peep out of the sisters even though I know they will have seen it!
Congratulations, that is so exciting. I bet my Mum would love to read it too. It looks awesome.
Sounds like some crazy weather you've been getting there too! Glad that you haven't had too much damage.
Well done, this looks to be a really interesting book, just the sort I love to read. Pleased to hear you suffered very little damage during the storm. It was on our news and looked horrific.
Big Congratulations to you Maggiemae , the book cover looks amazing -- so tastefully done with sepia illustrations of your mother's era ! And I love the title -- it has a really classy tone to it !! (and should not offend anyone !! ) Perhaps the sisters will come round and appreciate your efforts one of these days -- don't let it spoil your glory !!
Glad you did not have any serious damage with the winds -- and there is me moaning about a little bit of rain !!!!
@beryl Great to have your comment, Beryl! The cover had the actual photographs I took from Mum's photo album and I was able to process them to be a bit better in quality. That was her Morris Oxford!
Congratulations! How wonderful to see it in print. When will it hit the stores.? My neighbour's tree came down and squashed his fence and a branch came down in my driveway but I haven't heard of any serious damage.
You are so talented and I really admire you for getting a book published. You must be really proud. Glad you have not suffered any storm damage. Fav for this lovely image
What a lot of hard work must have gone into it. My Grandparents both wrote memoirs and they are really special to have. And my Uncle collated all the letter written between his mother and his foster mother when he was sent to America for safekeeping. It is fascinating and well worth the effort. You should be very proud.
@maggiemae My relatives did it for the family but when my grandfathers colleagues heard they wanted copies (he was a consultant physician and helped set up the Medical school in Oxford. )
You have every right to feel chuffed at the well dones, it's a great achievement and you put lots of hard work into it. I love the cover. Its disappointing for you not to have your sisters share, hope they will at some point. I would love to have a family book like this.
@jennywren thanks Jen - my two sisters got their tails in a twist with my first title that I had chosen. I changed it but they haven't communicated. I think we should all write a book about ourselves for our children and grand children!
@maggiemae Yes that would be a good thing to do. We never know much about our mothers or fathers, grandparents real lives, how they felt about things etc. It's mostly anecdotes and snatched comments. It could be a tricky thing to do though!
@summerfield You can buy them out of Amazon or 'bookstore.balboapress.com Vikki. If I had a copy of them here, I would send it to you autographed! hee hee! I won't get these copies delivered till later in the year.
First chapter was great! Well done!
You mentioned somewhere else about John saying 'what would dad have thought' - is his father a certain famous Munro? Could I sense another book?
@kiwisnapper His father, is indeed that Munro - Burt! And there have been many books written about him, one of the best, I think is by the director of the film,WFI Roger Donaldson.
Whoopeee!!!! Congratulations on a successful writing project -- I like the artwork on the cover and the title reads perfectly. I'm so excited for you! And yes, nice you were okay after the storm.
What an accomplishment! How satisfying to see and hold the final product. The cover looks delightful. So very cool to see that your perseverance paid off... congratulations. Glad, too, about no damage from the winds.
@maggiemae Thanks Maggie. I have not visited the site yet, but am told by my daughter in law that you can upload books for epublishing and print on demand there. You are required to buy 1 copy and set the price yourself. That's all I can remember right now. I've been trying to get my stuff together so I can start offering books on my website but life keeps getting in the way!
@maggiemae
@maggiemaeI think it must be very strong to you. I have come to do that. congratulations. there is nothing better than the stories of a breast. I have no mama and I miss a lot.
Congratulations on the book - I have tried to buy it on Amazon but forgot my password momentarily whilst at the work computer - it looks very interesting and I can't wait to read it. The cover plus photos look very cool. Be proud! Im pleased the wind didn't do much damage.
Gosh Maggie this is so impressive. Well done you for all the hard work and problems you overcame to achieve this. I love the cover and look forward to reading what's inside. So glad the wind didn't do any serious damage.
How absolutely wonderful!! This is a HUGE accomplishment, and I am so proud to know you, of course, on top of always being happy to be your friend here on 365!! Very exciting.....and, the cover looks great!
Quick question: Are you the eldest of your siblings, and how many of you are there? Were you the closest to your mom, or the first born that she felt that she could trust you with her memoirs, or are you the writer in the family? You certainly have done her justice....well done!!
@panthora I'm the middle one, Osia and my two other sisters were very anti our mother after growing up! Then I called this book something that they highly objected to so I changed it. I'm very cross with them - no acknowlegement of my hard work at all. Now they want to have a say...! Mum kept lots of diaries as I have so writing comes easily. In the thank you 's in the front of the book, i said, 'thanks to my two sisters who encouraged me to pursue this project"! That is not really true but I wanted to turn the other cheek! I'm very happy to read your encouraging words!
Available on Amazon already! Definitely going on my Christmas list, sounds really interesting, already I am thinking that maybe I can visit some of the places they did.
I'll check it out, Maggie. You wrote it so its sure to be a lively read! Hello again…. just a brief visit to check up on you and my other friends. Looks like you're doing fine!
Congratulations Maggiemae on such a great achievement! I bought the Kindle version yesterday and have started reading it. It is going to be a great read - so much has changed over the years! So sorry your sisters are not very supportive! You must be so thrilled to finally hold it in your hand! Fav!
The fav is for the whole way of making this book.
Sounds like some crazy weather you've been getting there too! Glad that you haven't had too much damage.
I'm glad that the storm did minimal damage.
Glad you did not have any serious damage with the winds -- and there is me moaning about a little bit of rain !!!!
My husband has written some biographical books about families and their weal and woe. The next book is about to be published.
You mentioned somewhere else about John saying 'what would dad have thought' - is his father a certain famous Munro? Could I sense another book?
Glad there was no major damage from the storm!
Glad there was not too much damage.
