Almost to the most eastern part of NZ where the sun rises first, we were awake at 6am onwards for that photo. I’ll put it on another album. But this long pier was historic and had such an interesting history. From the early 1900’s this wharf was the destination for merchant ships to tie up here and load up sheep wool, beef and there was lots of jobs and work. John walked up the long concrete structure to where these two guys were fishing and made conversation.
Three good things:
1. Waking up at 5.30 didn’t take its toll! i wasn’t as tired as usual. But out there there were photos of these iconic maori guys on horses with their dogs. Horses were so much more in evidence than 4 wheel bikes!
2. Turned left down country roads and found wonderful churches, graveyards and even a ‘Waka’ standing in a wild field. We learnt there was a difference of opinion as to who owned this! ( a great ocean going canoe)
3. Our motorbike clothing opened many doors… Burt Munro. We are travelling Highway 35 and Burt’s number is 35. A guy gave us some Highway 35 T shirts and it's now as if we are part of a famous motorbike gang!
Ooh you & John are rocking! I can see you're going to have to ditch the car & take to the bike! I love this photo, in fact I love all your recent photos. You are doing amazing work seeing as you are on the move too & all portable! I think I would seriously think about getting a camera like yours next if mine broke! I know it's how you take the photo but the variety of your shots is fab. Great tones here.fave again!
@happypat I didn't see that Pat! I think it would be a little launch out fishing though we did see a yacht working its way north on the horizon at one stage.
Really wanting to go back to the East Coast after seeing all your shots.. Had a friend down that way over the weekend and she was showing me her photo's .. very envious.. Wonder if the A frame motel is still in Tokomaru Bay.. great shot..
You are certainly making the most of your East Coast adventure with these early morning starts. It is a fascinating and beautiful area to see and seeing it through your lens is like revisiting and seeing all the things I missed.
Beautiful image! Love your processing! I think we should see a shot of you and John in your Highway 35 Tshirts! Why are you in your motorbike gear if you are driving in your car?
Great shot, Maggie. Love the b&w. Fav for me! . . . and HI! I am still alive! :) Sorry I've missed popping by your project. Pain sucks. Trying to be on the mend. Hoping back cracker helps a bit tomorrow but not sure if it's because I need alignment or if it's because my muscles are mad at me due to pool therapy. Will find out tomorrow!
What a fabulous trip, and what a wonderful capture! And, Maoris on horses....are you kidding?!!! We are most definitely following your route on this trip as I find out of the way places like this most fascinating!! I hope there is a photo of the Maori guys in your other album! FAV!
