Not much time or internet to enjoy other talent on 365! Our trip up the west coast of Northland took us past a hillside where monstrous works of art soared high into the sky! Some photos later. The town of Dargaville is based on a large tidal river and has history of famous landings and prosperity.
Not seen here at present but the river maintains its superiority. This heritage listed hotel we chose looked out on the river flats and distant hills and had an exterior to be proud of. Inside it was a bit stark and although renovated, had no comfort built in. 130 years old.
Three good things:
1. The hotel looked fabulous from the outside - my light manipulation worked.
2. No restaurant at the hotel for 5 years (not on the web site) so we trekked the town for open food venues. Found an another old hotel we would have preferred to stay at with great food (lamb shanks the size of an ox) and old but charming decor!
3. A very tall wicker hat stand in our room that was good for hanging our clothes!
I go past this B&B Hotel often as have a Sister and Brother living up there.. but have never had cause to stay there.. you did well to find one place to have dinner.. guess you are driving up through the forest today and that is fantastic.. be sure to stop off and see Tane Mahuta..
It's a dodgy job booking hotels without knowing anything about them. I am useless at booking B&Bs & we have stayed at some grotty places. Our late neighbour picked great ones but she paid more than us but Harry was always willing to go to any Ann recommended because he liked her !
Your hotel looks typically NZ in structure & its name suits it so well. Very olde worlde but it's all experience. Pity you had to go,out to eat, not something I'm keen to do after traveling all day.
@happypat Every night accommodation is an experience - some not pleasant and some greatly appreciated! The one we are in tonight has all the mod cons this one didn't - fridge, TV, plenty of plugs, phone, balcony overlooking the beach and 2/3rd price of this one!
What an interesting building ...with such a nice upper porch! Is that a satellite dish on the side? If so, how unexpected with such a historical look to the building.
