New Zealand has some wild and desolate places but the roads seem to be good. From our wonderful seaside accommodation where the locals seemed to have far much more fun than the tourists, we set our GPS to find the nearest ferry transport! Sadie conformed and had a picture of a ferry while she said, ‘take ferry”.
The road continued up the west coast of Northland and we managed to find a petrol station to affect the GPS which said , "you are on reserve fuel”
A beach scene took us in the position of photographing 90 mile beach but we didn’t have a 4x4 to go up here.
Lunch in an odd and character filled pub was free as the lady who owned it was a motorbiker and with a signed book, our delicious lunch was free!
Ignoring some motels on the way to Cape Reinga we were stuffed for accommodation but found this odd place - she was maybe vegetarian, had 2 dogs, several horses, 5 cats and a wonderful life style.
Three good things;
1. This was taken at the beginning of the 90 mile beach and obviously there was some coaching going to be had.
2. We had so much breakfast - scrambled eggs and toast and a huge lunch that we had no…no… food at tea time!
3. Internet was once more very good - about which we are amazed once more.
Oh it all sounds such an adventure.......glad you ignored the usual places to stay & opted for the qerky. I think it's a case of bush telegraph saying John & Margaret of Indian Bike fame are on their way.......get the kettle on!
Love this little class of surf class on ninety mile beach. Fave.
What a wonderful scene! Gorgeous beach! Did you make any hotel bookings for this trip or are you just wandering where you fancy and hoping to find a good place to stay? What an adventurous couple you are! What fun to get your free lunch! Your fame goes before you! How long are you off travelling?
Wonderful shot. I think they might have to share boards, there don't seem to be enough to go around.
As you are finding out it's far more fun just winging it, than having a fixed schedule. You find more unusual places, and have more adventures, and meet far more interesting people.
@pamknowler No hotel bookings Pat - its an off season and no school holidays which is why we chose to go at this time. Plenty of vacancies - we stop where we feel like stopping.
@eyesmile Didn't even put my big toe in to find out Gena! But I know it would be too cold for swimming unless you were under the age of 10 or it was so hot!
Wonderful and colourful capture of these little ones of for their surf lesson. You sound as though you are having great time and meeting lots of interesting people Maggie
Sounds like you had a wonderful day. the beach scene is lovely. fav.
