Comments on 365 reminded me of this sweet little childrens book and I found it was still in my bookcase! Titled “Flower Fairies of the Autumn”, there were other books of the seasons but I don’t have them.
I loved the ‘song of the Pincushion Fairy -
“People come and look at me
Asking who this rogue may be?
…..up to mischief, they suppose,
Perched upon the briar-rose.
I am nothing else at all
But a fuzzy wuzzy ball
Like a little bunch of flame
I will tell you how I came:
First there came a naughty fly
Pricked the rose and made her cry;
Out I popped to see about it
This is true, so do not doubt it”
Three good things:
1. mixed nuts, raisins and cranberry mix
2. I feel like a fuzzy wuzzy ball at times!
3. The cherries in Central Otago might be all picked with new regulations brought in.
I have these books but they are only paperbacks and not as grand as your copy. My favourite has always been the fuschia fairy. Thanks for putting this photo up and bringing back memories.
These pictures so remind me of my childhood maggiemae. Apparently they have re launched them in a modern edition but I checked on EBay & the original 1927 ish ones are worth around £50 or £60 each & the 1950 version a fair bit too. I wish I still had mine !
A wonderful illustrations from a lovely childhood book --I do not think it was translated to Welsh !! lol ! We must be on the same wavelength Maggiemae as I poster some rosehips today !!
@maggiemae I wonder ....wasn't it Teri me the way we write on books in those days? I have some old ones with scribbles my brothers did on them....not me!!
i have a vague recollection of seeing a similar book when i was a little girl and we used to visit our father's aunt's family. that aunt married an american businessman and they had a big house with a large library on the second floor. their 8 children, my father's cousins, had no interest in reading and my brother and i would go straight to the library to read whenever we came. not so interested in children's books at the time as i wanted to read the 'grown up' books but i do recall. now i look and see books differently of course and wish i'd have paid more attention then. thanks for bringing back some good memories.
Loving your book too!
