This is a yucca type flower, not sure of the botanical name (not that I would remember it anyway) One stem comes up from the plant quite quickly but it takes a week or so for the flowers to unfold on either side of the stem!
Nice on black...
The weather turned to crap after a warm night and a morning where we flung open our french doors! Rain and a strong and cold wind from the south!
Three good things:
1. A good talk with my bank teller in spite of a queue banking up behind me!
2. Watching a favourite program," Downton Abbey - the Finale” Its just so good!
3. Rang our daughter being concerned that the area they live in had a big scrub fire racing over the hills. They were holidaying in another part of NZ and now we have spoilt their peaceful relaxation! The good news is that the fire is now contained.
We have these too at our new home and we were away for a week, when we came back there were 10 plants which had not had anything but leaves, then BOOM this all across the lot of them... pretty shocking. I love that you caught them with water droplets.
Interesting looking flowers. I have a dracena (dragon plant) in the garden that has similar flowers. I haven't ever taken photos of the flowers as they are at least 6 foot from the ground!
A lovely capture of this strong plant , beautiful flowers ,but lethal sharp points to the sword like leaves I used to have one in the garden but it overgrew its space -- it was a devil to dig out -- deep roots and the leaves there to get your blood !!
Stunning showy flower maggiemae. The rain drops look like jewels, will, look really beautiful in a shady part of the garden. Sorry about the fire, sound scary!
You were so right it is gorgeous on black! Like the others I like the raindrops on the flowers too! You make me laugh talking about the weather turning to crap!
@happypat The plants (2) are actually in full sun, Pat and I think they do better than the one in the shade on the other side of the garden. They do have years when they don't flower at all.
Very nice! I like the raindrops coming off the tips of the plant. Glad to hear the fire in your daughter's area is contained. I hope no one was injured.
We used to have Yuccas in the garden in our last home in NJ. I really liked them. So did the Downy Woodpeckers- they used to land on the stalks and peck away! Pretty shot.
