Summer Pool by maggiemae

Summer Pool

Heading home from Central Otago we crossed the mighty Clutha river to investigate the small settlement of Millers Flat (population about 200) named after a Walter Miller who farmed in the area in 1849 which is old for NZ! It has a solar heated swimming pool which is quite amazing for this small area!

Three good things:
1. Plenty of sun for these solar panels to be useful here. Apricots, cherries and nectarines were being sold on the roadsides!
2. There was a bridge too that was built across the river in 1898. How they got from one side of the river to the other before this, heaven knows!
3. Two kilos of cherries will last a while but not forever!
The colour of the pool really stands - it would be memorable to swim there looking at those hills.

Looks like a relaxing place for a swim. I thought about you this afternoon while I was walking with my neighbor. Several bikes went past us and an elderly couple went by on electric bikes. They tootled up the hill with ease while we huffed and puffed to the top. I think they had the better deal!

@jenniferruge They certainly make an outing into a pleasurable one and not tiring!

How inviting... it looks like a bit of a mirage with the surroundings.

That fantastic pool looks rather amazing out in the country like that......I do like a heated pool! We have been wTching the other disc belonging to Country Calendar a present at Christmas time. One of the half hour hour programmes was about fruit trees....you do love your fruit & make such good use of it.

Ooh that looks very tempting...for me to float in and look at the sky as I'm not a very strong swimmer xx

When I lived in southern Germany over twenty years ago out local outdoor pool was heated by solar panels and it was very efficient. This reminds me a little of that pool but without the nice hills in the background!

@happypat I love Country Calendar - very NZ! There is masses of fruit just about everywhere in NZ but the Central and North Otago cherries are the juiciest and sweetest!

@psychographer The hills around were bare and brown, Lisa- I can just imagine floating here and looking at the blue sky!

Great shot...wonderful layered background

Would love to swim in a pool like this with a view. I go to our local pool once a week but it is indoor with no view at all.

i love it great lines and looks very surreal against the wonderful landscape

What a lovely setting for a pool and very erricient heating

Beautiful crisp clear shot of the swimming pool! I like the looks of the hills in the background too! All that fruit sounds so delicious but don't eat those cherries all at once!

An amazing swimming pool with its solar panels -- but somehow looks so out of place against the backdrop of mountains ! This country girl would rather be sitting with her feet in mountain stream admiring the scene !

It does look a tad lonely out there with no one in it. I would have to go for a swim there just to make it feel wanted! But then I swim all year round anyway. :-)

That looks great

I'll bet the water's nice and warm!

It is amazing to have a solar heated pool considering how small the population is. They've just installed solar panels for our pool in TK and they cost a bomb. The water in this shot looks so inviting - it's really hot here again today.

Thanks for sharing this.

@sdutoit It was colder today for Central Otago temps but I was amazed that there was nobody in here - I liked the flat water!
January 26th, 2016
@redy4et I expect it is in spite of it being a little colder today! If only I'd brought my swimming suit, I'd be in there!

Such an oddity to see out in the middle of no where, or what looks to be that way!!! Love the scenery and how nice it would be to jump in a heated pool!! Pretty scenery in the back ground and beautiful blue water!!! FAV!

Looks like the perfect remedy for a hot Otago summer!
January 26th, 2016
@pitasmum The grass looks a bit brown but there is a shade sail there in the background! Tiny town, I'm amazed there was no chlldren here!
January 26th, 2016
@cashew That's what took my eye, Kathy - the blue water! Nice and clean and no slimy bits on the walls!
January 26th, 2016
A pool with a view. With a fantastic place to swim. All that sky and the view.
January 26th, 2016
@thistle and outside too, Joyce! All the swimming pools I know now are inside!
January 26th, 2016

January 26th, 2016

January 26th, 2016
I really like how you've positioned the pool in the surrounding area.
January 26th, 2016
Good colours and tones.
January 26th, 2016

January 26th, 2016
Technology at its best, but where is everyone?? The pool looks quite lonely!
January 26th, 2016
A beautiful pool with a gorgeous backdrop. It's great that solar power is being used.
January 27th, 2016
@tristansmum We were so impressed we even thought of shifting here, Stephanie!
January 27th, 2016
