We were in the middle of Central Otago with its wild territory and history. Our accommodation was the “Speargrass Inn” which goes back into the 1880’s but has been been extensively modernised!. We have a fridge in our unit and an ensuite which they certainly didn’t in those days!
Three good things:
1. My SIL also called Margaret, turned 89 today and we celebrated with lunch here and a local band played called ‘ Vanuatu’! As there is a major fruit growing area here, these guys are brought in to pick the fruit. Of course they bring with them their music! Although they had great harmony and a diverse choice of music, there was no laughing smiles in their faces.
2. It must have been absolutely freezing here when the first pioneers arrived and they brought their building trades with them - stone fences and buildings..
3. Took lots of photos and so worth sharing here at Fruitlandks and the FB contact here seemed to like them.
What a shame they did not find pleasure in sharing their music -- A lovely colourful shot but as you say ,sad faces . Love the tea chest instrument , brings back memories of the skiffle groups of the 50s - great fun with the tea-chest and the washboard etc !!
Great shot Marg - we have a similar band up here that plays at the Sunday market or maybe they are the same guys now moved down to central. Love that broomstick base. But like you say always looking very serious.
Are you in Jamaica Maggiemae? Such a bright & cheerful shot I would never have thought you would be in NZ . I have been told this morning that it's really hot in North Island! Wish my legs were as brown as that!
They aren't really smiling are they? So colorful and cheerful looking and no smiles. Hmmmmmm!! I do love the colors they chose though and I bet the music was awesome?
@cashew Well the first one was great - then for the rest of the 2 hours the rhythm didn't change including the rather loud tambourine which got on your nerves rather! But far better than a rock band!
An odd thing popped into my head when I looked at this. That was, does the person sitting on this have any effect on the sound? Great capture of the man playing this instrument!
