Oamaru from the hill by maggiemae

Oamaru from the hill

No wind and occasional sun meant a good opportunity for a photo looking east, of our town.
You can see the port and the old buildings which have stood for over 100 years. The large hill at the back is called Cape Wanbrow and not very long ago was covered in pine trees.
These have all been harvested and the town has organised numerous public work plantings of new trees and bushes. It still looks naked!

Three good things:
1. A good date scone for morning tea for John
2. Not a date scone for me.
3. Another 50 of the books of mine arrived - my next marketing challenge!
What a beautiful town in which you call home!

What a scenic image to share your town with us. It's gorgeous! Sad to see the naked hillside, but still quite beautiful.

A lovely view! How sad that they cut down all the trees!

It looks like a beautiful place Maggie, so colourful and it's good that you can see the water beyond the buildings, so many places have high rise buildings obliterating the view.

Nice landscape shot. I do hate to see all the trees in one area taken down. It does make the area look pretty barren, doesn't it?

It looks like such a pretty little town with lots of color and character. Too bad about the trees. The dates scone sounds good but good for you for abstaining.

@yaorenliu Reason - 1, I don't like date scones...2, I'm trying to lose weight not gain it!
March 31st, 2016
@pamknowler Well they were at the age for cutting down, but its so devastating! Is everywhere in our area where they are harvesting huge pine forests!
March 31st, 2016
@sdutoit I'm not a selling type person and dread going round retailers, Sylvia!

@phil_howcroft Dunedin was the Scottish settlement town, Phil. Oamaru appealed to most originally because of the safe harbour - gold miners selling gold and it being shipped etc.

It's a great photo showing the harbour and surrounding views. I love the contrast between the hard lines of the buildings and the curves of the slopes.

March 31st, 2016
A beautiful town nestled in those hills. It's too bad they had to harvest all the trees from that hill, surely they could have left some!
April 1st, 2016
@tristansmum Well they have tried to replant with natives and flowering shrubs but today they found that over 200 of these had been ripped out by vandals!
