We came down to this area for a Malt Whisky Tasting, believe it or not! The setting sun enhanced this scene at the harbour front. Tourist were there and using the frame for such a good photo!
Three good things;
1. Wow - the whisky is Oamaru stored in the wonderful Oamaru stone vaults and there were several varieties. My glass had about 1/2 ounce in it with various malt choices. One was especially good. Malt, lemon and port hints I thought. “The Oamaruvian’!
2. Cheeses, chocolate, thinly sliced pear and fresh italian bread filled the empty spaces nicely.
3. I was complimented with my choice of questions afterwards. Someone suggested I had a lot of knowledge about Scottish Malts and I said I had actually tasted quite a lot - adding, ‘not at the same time” I expect malt whisky loosened my tongue!
the beautiful sunset light indeed enhanced the harbour scene. your capture looks so 3D-ish.
my boss and his wife will be going to visit their daughter and family in the winter and will be touring the part of NZ they haven't seen yet. i told them to go the "steam punk capital of the world" which is oamaru and he actually looked it up in the map. it will be one of the places where they will be going. he asked me how i know so much about burt munro and indian motorcycles so i told him that you and john were here in the spring last year. if you happen to be around when they pass through, i might ask him to deliver something to you. ;-)
What a perfect photo with the birds on top of the frame and the people posing for you! Very impressed with your three good things too. it all sounds so fabulous
I didn't notice that at first but now I do by the way he's holding his hand. I didn't really think they were posing for you either I thought you just had spectacular timing!
@adayinmallacoota Malt whisky is very different from ordinary whisky, Belinda! Mellow, with lots of hidden taste and goes down so well - a bit dangerous actually!
That's such a wonderful idea Maggiemae! With such a great opportunity it's too bad you didn't know about 5 + 2 and the current theme framed! What an opportunity that would have been!!! No worries... Clearly you had a super time!
Lovely lighting. How nice of those folks to hang around and offer you the photo op! The whiskey tasting sounds interesting but personally I would prefer tasting brandy.
This photo frame must be a new addition to your town as I can't remember seeing it last year. Works to great effect for photos & the birds love it too I see! The whisky tasting sounds right up my street, we could have had loose tongues together!
@happypat Its only about a year old, Pat. Some bright spark thought it up and now as an end point to the Alps to Ocean Bike Trail, its very popular! Twas fun at the tasting - mostly men there!
