Scenes from a Train

The Texan desert stretched endlessly towards the distant mountains.
Here a train sat waiting to go - fascinated by the length!

Three Good Things:
1. The air-conditioning failed in the dining car and it was over 100deg. Fortunately we could have our meal delivered to our cabin.
2. John put the overhead bunk down for an afternoon nap then on putting it back failed to notice his iPad was on the side shelf - the glass cracked under pressure and left a small hole and splinters! Still goes, though!
3. As usual in a desert, it was exciting to see life - horses and cattle!
Fantastic capture...Fav

Super scenery and edit Love the deep shadows in the hills -- I can see a face in the hill side !!

Interesting choice of edit. It seems strange to see my countryside in your photos

@beryl So can I now, Beryl - lying on the back - nose and deepset eyes?
May 26th, 2017
@grammyn I thought the same about those travelling around NZ too, Katy! The photos were better than I've seen them from others!

@salza Yes, Sally! - he did swear! Last big trip we did - last year, he dropped his iPhone into a deep Alaskan fjord!

@gijsje The scenery is what you expect with the wild wild west films! Where are the Indians

Wow a train and empty landscape-good shot!

That's how the iPad got smashed! Oh dear he would be annoyed with himself! This is a real desert scene, the train & these dark smooth mountains are an extra bonus. They mountains look like heaps of sand blown there by the wind.
May 26th, 2017
@happypat The desert just goes on and on - dried up canyons, stream beds, gates falling over, cactus, an occasional dusty old house or ruin!
May 26th, 2017
Wow, that's a different and dramatic landscape.
May 26th, 2017
@maggiemae oh well I hope you have a good book!!

@onewing yep, just one word. No more information!

You are traversing the Big Bend region obviously, it is a very dramatic landscape. I'm so sorry about the iPad. I do love this photo of my great state! Fav!

@louannwarren Taken from the train, Lou Ann so the foreground is blurred.

You're seeing the wild west! Sounds like great fun to travel by train.

R's iPad suffered the same fate and lives again with a new screen fitted by R. Way to go ;-)
May 27th, 2017
Love the colours Makes it seem more remote.
May 27th, 2017
Such a grand scale. I really like this image.

This is the kind of Texas landscape that I always think of but since being on 365 have learned is not always the case. Too bad about the iPad- I always fear I'll break mine and not be able to replace it.

What a great way to see the desert. glad you mentioned the train. I had to look twice to see it and would've missed otherwise.

What a wonderful capture, Maggiemae. That is way too hot to sit and relax. Nice to have the option to move into your cabin. So is his iPad ok for the trip? What a lot you are seeing.
