We were almost home and we looked at each other and said, why don’t we have lunch up river at Kurow! Set off down the usual road but our GPS said, ‘Turn right’ I saw a sealed road with centre line and thought well, why not! Never been up this road.
Well it turned out to be a nightmare for me - here is it is just picturesque - we met a farmer in pickup moving cattle down the road and he stopped and said, “Don’t often see a Motorhome going up this road! John replied, after seeing the odd farmer waving at us, “well they probably think we are just a couple of bloody tourists, lost again”!
The road deteriorated into just a basic farm track with ruts and ditches and extremely tight turns down the mountain side! I hung on desperately and occasionally swore!
Three good things:
1. We ended up on a main road and I breathed a sigh of relief and picked up all the fallen bits and pieces in our van!
2. John being John, just loved it!
3. Finally at home and not much unpacking - we didn’t bring much!
Such a funny story Maggie! I can just imagine! I remember one trip I took with Anthony & Jo years ago. He went on some track across uninhabited country with about two inches in the fuel tank...I was nearly having kittens! No spare in a tank but we made it out the other end amazingly!
@happypat That sounds awful! I have since learnt there have been several fatal accidents on the road that we took! But with smaller ATV's which got stuck in a rut and turned over!
Sounds like quite an adventure for the end of your journey. I also have a habit of driving up roads that I've never used before it can certainly lead to some entertaining journeys!
@rjb71 I loved the first bit, Richard - the asphalt turned to gravel but it was still a good road with lovely scenery - followed a sheep with a tiny lamb up the road, met a bunch of cattle being driven..... until the road turned to little more than a horse track!
Looks beautiful. Hope there was not too much damage in the cupboards. I am always a little afraid to open our cupboards after we have been on the road :)
Quite an experience. Our Sat Nav took us along a similar road a while ago. When we checked out the actual map instead of the virtual map afterwards it turned out that there were two Silvan Roads and our Sat Nav girl obviously had a sense of humour and took us along the scenic one. It was a hair raising experience.
Beautiful color and scenery right here. Sorry it was such a harrowing ride but glad to know you made it down safely with little damage and didn't have a whole a lot of unpacking to do when you got home
@cheribug Its nice to remember this picture Cheryl! And not some other ones I took with my feet planted firmly on the ground! Nice to see your name popping up!
Another road trip adventure - sounds very intrepid of you! That GPS (I call ours the gypsy) has a lot to answer for but at least you got to explore a bit more of the road less travelled. Lovely photo with those leading lines
@kiwinanna John has taken our GPS into serious confrontation! I know settings can control where you want to go but - not this side trip. After a happy outcome it can now be called an Adventure!! If you look a this much repeated saying ... "A road less travelled" you will find (via Google) that Life is difficult!
You certainly live an exciting life "on the edge"! My motto is don't trust the GPS! I always check where it's going to take us on a decent map before we start! I love map reading but you can't do it when driving! My sister used to be good at map reading but just lately she seems to have lost the art and got us lost! Best if I check myself before we leave! Great image! Fav!
